Does Medicare pay for COVID tests or COVID vaccines in 2024?

Medicare compare plans

As seniors are more likely to experience severe COVID-19 symptoms, Medicare includes coverage for various COVID-19 tests, products, and healthcare services.

You pay nothing for the COVID-19 vaccine, as long as it is FDA-approved and FDA-authorized. Your health care provider will bill Medicare directly, so make sure to bring your Medicare card or the card from your plan.

If you think you have COVID-19 and your doctor recommends a test from a Medicare-accepted place, you won’t have to pay for it as long as the test is FDA-authorized. Medicare does however not cover over-the-counter tests.

If you test positive for COVID-19 with mild to moderate symptoms, your doctor might give you monoclonal antibodies to help you recover at home instead of going to the hospital.

People with a Medicare Advantage plan should obtain the above-mentioned services from an in-network provider.
